Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child
By Marc Weissbluth, M.D.
When my baby was very small, I remember one day when he kept crying and crying. Nothing made him happy. I tried everything I could think of to entertain him. Finally I decided that I would nurse him again, so I put him down on my lap. He was asleep in two seconds. I realized then that he was crying because he was so tired! He had only been awake for two hours, but two hours is a long time for a baby. Dr. Weissbluth says that no baby should be awake for more than two hours. Some babies are tired after only one hour! This was true of my baby. Sometimes after only one and a half hours, he would rub his eye and cry. He was trying to tell me that he needed to sleep, but I wasn’t listening. Thanks to this book, I started to be able to read his cues much better. Now he takes a lot of naps and has an early bedtime. Everyone always says what a happy baby he is. And I am a much happier mother! Doctor Weissbluth is a pediatrician (a children’s doctor) and a sleep researcher. He also has four children of his own. The book is full of examples of parents who had sleep problems and how they solved them. The basic points are highlighted and easy to understand. I would recommend this book to anyone who has a baby in their household, or as a gift to a friend. They will thank you!

The Survivor Personality: Why Some People are Stronger, Smarter, and More Skillful at Handling Life's Difficulties…and How You Can Be, Too
By
Al Siebert, PH.D.
Once there was a man who wanted to start his own business. But his business partners stole his idea and started their own business. Many people would give up, but this man did not. He became a huge success. His name is Walt Disney! He is very famous, but his story is not so special. There are many people who have huge challenges in their lives and still become successful. They lose their families or their jobs, they are prisoners of war, some of them have even been tortured. But they not only survive, they thrive! What do they know that we don't? Dr. Siebert interviewed hundreds of survivors in order to write this book. They were all ordinary people who had experienced terrible tragedies and turned them into successes. You too can go out and interview hundreds of people to learn their secrets….or you can read this book!
